Under her leadership, Coffeyville developed into one of the most respected junior college volleyball programs in the nation, producing numerous All-Americans and conference Players of the Year.
Downing holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from the University of West Alabama, and a Master of Science in Student Affairs/Leadership in Higher Education from Baker University. She is also certified in Volleyball Coaching through the National Federation of State High School Associations.
“Throughout this process, our focus was on finding a leader who aligns with our values and is committed to building a successful volleyball program at Joplin High School,” said Joplin Schools Athletic Director Matt Hiatt. “Delice’s 20 years of experience building championship cultures within her volleyball teams, along with her passion for mentoring young people, separated her from other candidates. Coach Downing is the right person to lead our program forward and to help our student-athletes grow both on and off the court. We are excited to welcome Delice and her family to our school and community.”
“I’m thankful, fired up, and honored for the opportunity to lead the Joplin Eagles and accept the challenge of elevating this program,” said Downing. “We will build a culture rooted in grit, grind, and respect where players love to work hard, compete with purpose, and take pride in preparation, accountability, and winning. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to lead with discipline and purpose. Eagles, let’s fly high and soar to new heights!”
