(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) will hold their annual Volunteer Expo event on Thursday, January 22, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Empire Market (931 E 4th St). This event is intended for existing volunteers and also for those who want to get involved with the organization and the downtown community but are not quite sure where to start.
Visitors will gather together at the Empire Market to learn about the structure of Downtown Joplin Alliance in general and all the ways that individuals can volunteer. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Dress code is sporty casual (wear what you want).
The format is as follows:
- Introduce to DJA (its mission, its strategies, its Board, etc.)
- Introduction to the Main Street Method and the Four Points (Economic Vitality, Design, Promotions, and Organizations)
- Introduction to Empire Market Programming
- Breakout Tables
- Guests will be invited to explore all the programming options that DJA offers and ask questions of current volunteers. The programming represented at the event includes Clean Team, Empire Market, Downtown Restaurant Week, Third Thursday, Market Gardens, Endangered Properties Program, WineShare, Downtown Holiday Experience, Night Markets, and more!
Lori Haun, Executive Director of Downtown Joplin Alliance, states, “If you want to get involved in your downtown community, but aren’t quite sure where to start, then our Volunteer Expo is for you. Come join a group of like-minded people and learn how to use your skills to make Joplin a better place to be. This expo will be a low-stakes night for you to discover some of the programs that Downtown Joplin Alliance offers and how you can make them them even better. If you are a current volunteer, we want to challenge you to bring a friend to the expo to show them all the ways they can be involved!”
