The energy on both Kansas City University campuses was electric as cheers, laughter and happy tears echoed through the halls with the arrival of Match Day 2025. Osteopathic medical students gathered on KCU’s campuses in Kansas City and Joplin, surrounded by family, friends and faculty members, sharing smiles, hugs and shrieks of joy as they learned where their residencies will take them following commencement in May. Others Zoomed in from across the country to take part in the celebration and share their exciting news.

KCU student doctors placed in programs across the nation, representing a broad range of specialties. As of March 24, over 99 percent have secured post-graduate placement. Reflecting KCU’s standing as the ninth most impactful medical school in the U.S. for primary care, nearly 50 percent of graduates matched into primary care fields comprised of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Other placements include anesthesiology, orthopedic and general surgery, urology, otolaryngology, diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, ophthalmology and dermatology.

“I was thrilled! It’s a long journey of uncertainty and waiting, but luckily, I had my family, my wife’s family and some of my best friends here,” remarked Student Doctor Donald Keating, who placed in anesthesiology at Duke University. “Opening up that envelope, I think I started to get some tunnel vision. I saw Duke and was just over the moon! KCU does a tremendous job with their clinical education department. I have had incredible support over the last two years,” he added.

Not only is Match Day a time of excitement for students and their families, it is a moment of intense pride for the faculty and deans who have guided students throughout four years of rigorous academic preparation.

“Residency placement marks both a major milestone and a significant achievement,” said W. Joshua Cox, DO, FACOFP, executive dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. “We are proud to celebrate our student doctors as they take the next step in their medical journeys. Soon, they will graduate and join a network of more than 10,000 KCU alumni fulfilling our mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve.”

KCU is the fourth-largest medical school in the nation, the leading producer of physicians in Missouri and the second-leading producer for the state of Kansas.
