Anyone may now look up restaurant food inspection reports for Joplin establishments through an online portal provided by the Joplin Health Department. The portal may be accessed here.
The Joplin Health Department invested in creating this portal as an effort to make this public information more easily accessible. Reports can be viewed for all routine health inspections of food establishments. Visitors to this online tool can search for inspection reports by name of establishment and may filter by date of inspection.
Our food safety inspectors work with food establishments to ensure safe food practices are in place, creating confidence in the safety of the food served. Any establishments which fail an inspection are provided guidance as to how to achieve a passing score, and will be re-inspected to verify appropriate corrections have been made.
Health Department Director Ryan Talken says, “This online tool improves transparency by making it easier for the public to access inspection reports which contain information the public has a right to know when deciding where to eat.”
1 in 6 Americans contract a foodborne illness each year, with symptoms ranging from stomach cramps to death. One goal of the Environmental Health Division of the Joplin Health Department is to reduce the transmission of foodborne illnesses in Joplin. This is achieved by ensuring safe practices and sanitary conditions in Joplin food service establishments, educating local food handlers, and empowering citizens to make better choices with regard to food handling.
Inspections of food service establishments are done on a routine basis according to each establishment’s priority risk assessment to ensure compliance with the Joplin Food Code requirements.
