Ground Breaking Event to Kick Off Construction for City of Joplin’s Dover Outdoor Recreation Area on February 24

(Joplin, MO) – The City of Joplin is set to break ground on its newest park, the Dover Outdoor Recreation Area (DORA), with a ceremony at 4:00 pm on Monday, February 24. The public is invited to join city officials, Parks and Recreation Board members, community leaders, and the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce at the event, which will take place at 2302 N. Lone Elm Road. (Look for the Soccer Field Road street sign on the east side of Lone Elm. This is the former site of the Dover Hill soccer fields.)

DORA will be a unique, 95-acre outdoor recreation space centered around biking for all ages and skill levels. Planned features include a Bicycle Single Track, BMX Pump Track, a Children’s Bicycle Playground, and various skills courses with bridges and other obstacles. The park will also incorporate public art, a shelter for gatherings, improved signage, restrooms, lighting, parking, and landscaping.

“This will be an incredible addition to our community,” said Joplin Mayor Keenan Cortez. “Our citizens have wanted a convenient biking experience, and this park will not only provide that but also attract visitors to enjoy all that Joplin has to offer.”
