It is with both sadness and gratitude that NALA Adult Literacy announces the departure of Executive Director, Jessica Pommert. She has accepted the position of Development Director with Rapha International. Her last day at NALA will be Friday, February 7, 2025. Through her tenure at NALA, she has worked with innovative excellence to update processes, increase student and volunteer census, raise community awareness for NALA’s mission and services, and fundraise for the cause. She will begin her new position on February 17.
Jessica leaves NALA in a strong position for continued growth and service to the community. The Board of Directors has already begun conducting a search to find the next Executive Director. The Board of Directors and staff will be performing interim administrative tasks for the organization during the transition, and it is the Board of Directors’ priority to maintain a stable and effective organization. They will share the job announcement soon.
The Board of Directors wishes Jessica the best of luck in her future endeavors. They appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm she has given NALA over the last two and a half years. They are confident that with Jessica’s support, this transition will be smooth for our students, tutors, partners, and generous supporters. They look forward to continuing to serve our mission of supporting adult learners in their efforts to increase skills — efforts that give them access to a better life and make a positive impact on our community.
From Jessica Pommert, Executive Director, NALA Adult Literacy
After two and a half rewarding years of serving NALA Adult Literacy as executive director, I recently submitted my resignation to the board of directors. It is both with excitement and with sadness that I move into the next chapter of my career as Development Director for Rapha International. I will continue to do meaningful work by serving people in the Joplin community as well as joining the work Rapha International does in national and international arenas.
I’m incredibly proud of the accomplishments that the board, staff, tutors, volunteers, students, partners, supporters, and I have achieved for the over the past two and a half years. I’m also deeply grateful for all the relationships I’ve built during my time as Executive Director. Our Team of board members, staff, tutors, volunteers, and students have lifted each other up and motivated each other toward better education, better support, and better lives.
I remain deeply committed to Joplin’s nonprofit community and am grateful for the trust you have shown in me and in this organization via your support. I will be working in collaboration with the Board of Directors to help the organization transition into new leadership and will be available to the new hire for any questions they might have over the course of 2025. I trust the Board of Directors fully in making a great selection for the next executive director and look forward to their introducing their choice soon.
Thank you for championing our mission to support adult learners in their efforts to increase literacy skills — ultimately giving them access to a better life. I am committed to remaining a passionate advocate for the excellent safety net our nonprofit community provides to the city Joplin. I deeply love my community and the people who live, play, and work in this great city and am grateful for the opportunity to join the excellent work of Rapha International.
