Watered Gardens Ministries and its team loves the giving spirit that the holiday season brings to everyone, but they want to help neighbors struggling with poverty and homelessness.
Helping and blessing others is wonderful, but often that desire gets channeled into free giveaways. While well-intended, free giving erodes dignity and implicitly communicates that parents are unable to provide for their children and need a stranger to do so instead.
To protect dignity and affirm capacity, we want you to help us give fathers and mothers an opportunity to earn gifts for their kids. It’s an honor to provide for your family and Watered Gardens wants to defend that privilege. That’s why they are offering their annual Christmas market at the Joplin First Church!
They are offering a variety of toys, games, clothing, and stocking stuffers that have been donated by the community. Rather than a price, items are given a time stamp — the amount of time for parents to partner in the Worth Shop to earn the gifts they choose — the rate of exchange is always generous. There will also be a gift-wrapping station open so parents can beautifully wrap their gifts.
The Christmas Market will be open at Joplin First Church (501 W. 4th Street) on December 12 to 14. Hours on Thursday and Friday are from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
