(Joplin, MO) – The holiday season is right around the corner, and Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) is announcing the following events to help everyone get into the spirit:
Holiday Kickoff WineShare at The Main Event
Friday, November 1 | 6:00 to 8:00 pm | The Main Event, 611 S. Main Street | 21+ only
Enjoy sharing wine and conversation with friends new and old at November’s First Friday WineShare, held in the beautifully renovated event space, The Main Event at 611 S. Main Street. Bring a bottle of wine or your favorite craft beer to share. Hosted by Blue Moon Boutique, Sophie, and Blush Boutique, this event will serve as their Holiday Kickoff Open House, as well as the official launch of the month-long Fall-in-Love with Local BINGO promotion! Expect a night full of festive merriment, giveaways, and more.
Fall-in-Love with Local BINGO/Small Business Saturday
Friday, November 1 to Saturday, November 30 | Various locations downtown
For the second year of downtown, Fall in Love with Local Bingo, expect a huge expansion. Instead of occurring only on Small Business Saturday, this year, participants can play for the entire month of November! Pick up your free BINGO cards at any of the participating businesses (to be announced soon) and visit them for some shopping, wining, and dining, book a service, leave a review, and just leave the big-box stores behind! Four different BINGO cards will be available for play and each BINGO earned will give players a chance to win one of five exclusive tote bags filled with prizes worth of hundreds of dollars! Light Up the Park
Thursday, November 1 | 2:00 to 6:00 pm | Spiva Park, 4th and Main Streets
Join DJA and volunteers as they light up Spiva Park brighter than ever before! Expect to hang some lights and sip some hot chocolate. Volunteers can sign up here or just show up the day of.
Holiday Market at Empire Market
Saturdays from November 23 to December 21 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm | Empire Market, 931 E. 4th Street
The Empire Market will kick off its 7th Annual Holiday Market season on November 23. Expect all the great food, beverage, and produce options you’re used to, with even more locally made artisan goods, perfect for gift-giving. Live music, gift wrapping, and a visit from Santa on December 21 (along with a professional photographer) will also be part of the fun!
Downtown Holiday Decorating Contest
Saturday, November 23 to Monday, December 16 | Various locations downtown
This year’s theme is Retro Christmas! Downtown businesses have until November 20 to register to be included in online voting. Voting begins on Saturday, November 23, to coincide with the tree lighting at City Hall, and ends on Monday, December 16. The public will vote for their favorites in these categories:
- Best Use of Theme (Retro Christmas)
- Best Use of Lights
- Most creative
The awards ceremony will be held on December 20 in the lobby of City Hall.
Tinsel & Tidings Christmas Eve Market
Tuesday, December 24 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Help the Empire Market close out the 2024 season and get all those last minute gifts and food for your holiday table! The Market will be closed the following Saturday, December 28, and will be back in business for 2025 on January 4.
Beyond the offerings from Downtown Joplin Alliance, downtown will also host a holiday season full of parades, boutique open houses, special food offerings, concerts, and much more!
