Joplin NALA Read Receives $10,000 Grant from U.S. Bank Foundation

(Joplin, MO)NALA Adult Literacy, a nonprofit organization that helps adults learn to read and increase basic literacy skills, today announced it has received a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation. The grant will be used to support our vibrant adult literacy programs as well as begin a quarterly financial literacy class through US Bank. A check Presentation is scheduled for Friday, September 13 at 5:45 pm at the Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) soccer fields, during the Literacy Liftoff event.

“Creating equitable opportunities for our community requires resources, and we appreciate the support from the U.S. Bank Foundation, which helps us continue to build and expand the innovative programs we’re proud to offer,” said Jessica Pommert, Executive Director.

NALA Adult Literacy aims to continue to provide tuition-free programs to improve the self-sufficiency of families by supporting adult learners in their efforts to increase skills — efforts that give them access to a better life and make a positive impact on our community.

“We believe literacy should be within everyone’s reach-empowering adults to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by acquiring the skills they need to succeed. Our services play a vital role, increasing literacy levels and enhancing skills which improve the adult learner’s ability to address income responsibilities, health concerns, and job prospects.”

“Supporting the development of small businesses and a dynamic workforce is an investment in today and our future. We’re proud to work with organizations like NALA Adult Literacy to help gain greater financial literacy and build thriving communities,” said Kristen Polchinski, community affairs manager at U.S. Bank.
