A Note from the 2024 Children’s Theatre Workshop Director
“Another JLT Summer Workshop has come to a close.
We had two wonderful weeks of learning about theatre and what it takes to put on a production. We made new friends, learned some dances, and created some beautiful art. Special thanks to all volunteers who made this year’s workshop a success! Extra special thanks to Bonnie Johnson who has been a steady support of this program for nearly a decade.
We learned a lot about theatre and teamwork. Plans are already being made for next year, and we hope to see lots of familiar faces and plenty of new ones!”

JLT Presents 2024–25 Season Opener Billy Elliot the Musical
JLT is excited to announce their 2024–2025 season opener, Billy Elliot the Musical. Directed by Carolyn McGowan and assistant director, Brianna Daniel, the performance will take place on August 7 to 10 at 7:30 pm nightly with a Sunday matinee on August 11 at 2:30 pm.
Winner of ten Tony Awards (including Best Musical), Billy Elliot the Musical is a spectacular show with heart, humor, and passion and was named TIME Magazine’s Best Musical of the Decade!
Based on the international smash-hit film, and featuring a score by music legend Elton John, Billy Elliot is an astonishing theatrical experience that will stay with viewers forever. Set in a northern English mining town against the background of the 1984 miner’s strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community and changes his life forever.

JLT Announces Upcoming Auditions for Elf the Musical
JLT is excited to announce details on their upcoming holiday musical, Elf the Musical.
This performance is based on the book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin and features music by Matthew Sklar as well as lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The director is looking for a cast of about 35 to 40 with five primary characters, eight secondary characters, and an ensemble of 20 t0 25. Age ranges for the parts range from nine to 90.
Those preparing to audition should have a showtune or simple verse of some memorized. A CD player and piano will be available for use. Participants should also be prepared to read lines from a script. A short dance will also be taught with several opportunities to demonstrate participants’ abilities; bring tap shoes if you have them.
Auditions will be held on Monday, September 9 and Tuesday, September 10 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, with callbacks on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 pm if needed. All auditions will take place at Joplin Little Theatre, and those auditioning should enter through the main entrance under the marquee.
Rehearsals will begin on September 12, 2024. The production itself will run from Wednesday, November 20 to Saturday, November 23 at 7:30 pm nightly. A Sunday matinee will be offered on November 24 at 2:30 pm.

Season tickets are on sale until July 17, 2024 and are $75 for adults and $65 for senior citizens and students. Individual tickets go on sale on July 18 and are $18 for adults and $15 for senior citizens and students.
