Missouri American Water Releases 2023 Community Impact Report

At Missouri American Water, our work extends beyond providing safe, reliable water and wastewater services to our customers. We are also committed to supporting organizations that make our communities a better place to live and work. That’s why we’re proud to have provided over $348,100 in funding to 97 organizations to benefit the well-being of our customers, communities, and watersheds in 2023. Making an impact across the state is one more way we help keep life flowing!

Giving Back: More Than $348,100

Last year, we donated $236,154 to organizations in our communities through grants, scholarships, general charitable contributions and programming support, and $112,000 to assist customers in paying their water bills.*

  • Environmental Grants and Sponsorships: $58,800 to eight organizations
  • Public Safety and Firefighting Support Grants: $54,015 to 46 fire and rescue organizations
  • Inclusion, Diversity and Equity: $15,448 to support seven organizations
  • Education and Workforce Development: $9,100 to three organizations
  • Health and Wellness Hydration Station Grants: $42,796 to fund 20 stations for schools, community centers, and nonprofits
  • Community Sustainability: $55,995 to 13 organizations, including $30,000 to United Way
*These amounts may be subject to recovery in a future potential rate case(s).

Customer Assistance

In 2023, we contributed $112,000 to fund our customer assistance program. H2O Help to Others is an emergency assistance program created by Missouri American Water and Missouri’s Community Action Agencies. The program helps provide supplemental funding to customers experiencing financial hardship to help keep their water and/or wastewater services flowing.

Employee Engagement

  • 877 hHours in the Community: Missouri American Water team members volunteered regularly in the communities we serve.
  • Local Clean Ups: Our employees volunteered to help clean up trash along the Meramec River bank and along the shoreline of Lake Taneycomo.

American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF)

In 2023, AWCF contributed over $443,500 in Missouri:

  • $377,000 awarded to 18 organizations through AWCF’s “Keep Communities Flowing” grant programs
  • $66,563 donated to 157 nonprofit organizations in Missouri through the foundation’s employee matching gift program. This includes more than $21,210 our employees donated to organizations in Missouri through United Way.
