Downtown Joplin Alliance to Host June’s Third Thursday Event, You Belong Celebration

(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance and the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce’s Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion group are partnering for the You Belong Celebration during Third Thursday on June 20, 2024! This annual recognition of the adoption of the City of Joplin’s EDI Proclamation in 2020 will feature dynamic live musical performances, an interactive community art piece, and the annual Unity Walk, all designed to bring folks together.

The evening’s events include:

• Live music from the Jason Kinney Band and Here, Now on the You Belong stage at 6th and Main Streets
• Unity Walk at 6:00 pm (starts at 2nd and Main Streets and ends at the stage at 6th and Main)
• Remark and introductions from Mayor Keenan Cortez, former mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean, and representatives from event sponsors, Missouri American Water and Downstream Casino Resort.
• Representatives from RAISE will recognize Joplin Schools superintendent Kerry Sachetta for his contributions to helping refugees within the school district.
• Interactive mural project at 6th and Main Streets
• Creative Learning Alliance will host the You Bee-long Here: STEAMagination Exploration event at their home on 300 S. Main Street. Kids can make their own bee house and learn all about how bees help plants grow and thrive!
• Gypsy Ramblers and Killer Kole will be performing on the 200 block stage
• Patio and on-street dining
• Vintage car cruise on the 100 block
• Artisan market on the 500 block
• Over 100 vendors, including more than 25 food and beverage options

Lori Haun, executive director of the Downtown Joplin Alliance states, “The You Belong Celebration is a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the ways that we are different as well as the ways that we are alike.”

Third Thursday is held from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month from March through October. Thanks to our Third Thursday Title Sponsors, KSNF-TV/KODE-TV, Zimmer Marketing, and Verts Neighborhood Dispensary for making this event possible.
