Joplin Parks and Recreation Department Inventories Trees in City Parks with Funding from MDC Community Forestry Grant

The Joplin Parks and Recreation Department is updating an existing inventory of trees in City Parks. A Missouri Department of Conservation Community Forestry grant makes this work and assessing the trees’ structural risks possible.

This grant provides funding to update the existing inventory and assess the condition of trees within City Parks. City staff utilize the collected information when planning and implementing tree care in our community. In addition to the survey work, crews were also able to prune a large tree in Spiva Park with the grant funding.

“Missouri Department of Conservation has been a great partner with the City throughout the years on various projects,” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. “They bring many helpful resources to us and our community, and we appreciate their assistance in caring for our urban forests.”

MDC’s Community Conservation Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas. Their support benefits the City in maintaining its Tree City USA status.
