(Joplin, MO) – Amanda Mitchell has accepted the position of Interim Executive Director for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States starting January 8, 2024. Amanda will serve in the position until such time as the current search process is complete and a new director is hired to replace retiring executive director Annette Thurston.
Amanda has been a part of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States since its inception in 1996, helping support construction of the area’s Ronald McDonald House through local fundraising efforts.
She became a Ronald McDonald House volunteer in 2010 and in 2016 was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. Elected to the RMHC Board in 2016, she served as President 2021-2023 and currently chairs the Charity’s largest fundraiser Gift of Light, Gift of Love.
Born and raised in Joplin, Amanda earned degrees in Marketing and Management from Missouri Southern State University. She was partner/manager of Amanda’s Hallmark Shop in Joplin and Judy’s Hallmark Shop in Carthage until 2011. Following the Joplin tornado, Amanda coordinated, scheduled, and provided orientation for all volunteers doing construction work through Rebuild Joplin. She is a graduate of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Joplin program.
She was employed by Freeman Health System as a physician recruiter until December 2020, when she shifted her focus to family. Amanda enjoys her position as a stay-at-home mom for her young daughter, Katherine. She is married to Philip Mitchell, a financial advisor with Edward Jones.
Amanda is passionate about community service, giving her time and talents to multiple local organizations. She currently serves on the executive committee of St. Mary’s Elementary and Preschool’s Home and School Association. She is a past president of Soroptimist International of Joplin and remains on the board. She presently serves on the Connect2Culture board, as well.
Please join us in welcoming Amanda in this key role for our Charity’s transitional period.
About Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States:
Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States has served our communities since 1996 through its mission, which is to create, find, and support programs that directly support the health and well-being of children and their families. That mission is executed through its cornerstone program, Ronald McDonald House, and the Ronald McDonald Family Room, located at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Our House provides temporary lodging for families of seriously ill children (ages 0-21) and ill expectant mothers, while our Family Room serves as a small oasis for families of pediatric patients just steps away from their child’s hospital room. For the more than 200 families that Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States serves annually, we give a family with a sick child what they need most – each other.
