(Neosho, MO) – Crowder College’s Board of Trustees approved the addition of Men’s and Women’s Distance Track at their monthly meeting on Monday, December 4.
The decision was made at the recommendation of Athletic Director, Brandi Arthur. “Our cross country program has grown, since we started it in fall of 2022. Adding Distance Track in the spring provides another opportunity for our student-athletes to compete at the college level, and to grow Roughrider Athletics and enrollment overall,” stated Arthur.
Jake Holt, Cross Country Coach, will serve as head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs, which compete in the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association. The Distance Track Program will focus on events ranging from the 800-meter run all the way up to the 10,000-meter distance.
The Crowder College Roughrider athletic programs currently have 10 sports with 212 student athletes. Distance Track and Field would increase that number by 20, with the addition of ten men and ten women rounding out the roster.
Coach Holt said, “Our cross country program has garnered tremendous success in a very short time, producing several highly competitive athletes who will soon move on to NCAA Division I and II schools. The addition of Distance Track makes our program even more attractive to recruits while providing an even greater opportunity to showcase our student-athletes.”
Crowder College athletics boasts successful student-athletes both in and out of the classroom with more than 50 students being recognized as Academic All-Americans this past year.
