Adult Program: How to Collect And Display Insects

Have you ever been to a museum and noticed their incredible insect displays? Maybe, upon viewing those, you wished you could have displays of your own to look at! Join us to learn about how to capture and display insects both ethically and efficiently.
Participants will receive a small insect display kit, and will have the opportunity to practice their new skills on site as they perfect the art of insect displays.

Nature Explorers: Frog Friends and Toad Abodes

Insects are abundant this time of year. Though they are often dismissed because of their small size, insects lead truly fascinating lives that we tend to overlook. There is an entire world beneath our feet that deserves our attention! Join us to learn all about the cool insects at Wildcat Park. We will spend a bit of time in the cottage before venturing down on the trails to discover what our six-legged friends are up to.

Yoga in Nature for Kids
June 10 @ 10:30 am | For ages 4 and older, accompanied by an adult | Free class | Wildcat Glades Education Cottage
Led by Amanda, a registered yoga teacher, this class is designed to incorporate elements of nature, breathing, and yoga poses specifically for kids. Bring your yoga mat or a towel and a reusable water bottle for this beginner’s class. Yoga is a beneficial exercise for children’s health and even better when it can be done outdoors.

Preschool Program: Turtle’s Day Out

Solomon the turtle is whisked away for an adventure! Join us as we read Turtle’s Day Out, sing a song, and do a craft. Children will learn all about turtles and their lives here in Missouri. They will also have an opportunity to see a live turtle up close and in person.

Conservation in the Parks: Birdwatching Basics
June 20 @ 10:30 am to 12:30 pm | All ages welcome, recommended for those seven-years-old and up | Free class | Landreth Park in Joplin
Birds are busy building nests and raising young! This incredible spectacle might seem like it is only visible in areas that are far away from cities, but all sorts of birds can be found right here in the middle of Joplin! Interesting and beautiful birds are in our local parks, including Landreth Park.
Join us as we look for birds such as Eastern Bluebirds and Scissor-Tailed Flycatchers, and to learn the basics of birdwatching. Wildcat Glades Nature Group and the Missouri Department of Conservation naturalists will teach participants how to birdwatch.

Summer Solstice Hike
June 21 @ 6:00 to 9:00 pm | For ages 13+| Free event sponsored by U.S. Bank | Wildcat Glades Park
What better way to welcome summer than to spend your evening out on the trails? June 21 is the longest day of the year, and Wildcat Glades Nature Group volunteers are planning to take advantage of the extra sunlight. Join us as we hike the entire four-mile trail through Wildcat Park! This hike will be for those who can handle long hikes and periods of steep, rough terrain. Bring your hiking poles (if you want to), hiking shoes, water, and maybe even a small snack.
Participants will learn a bit more about what the Wildcat Glades Nature Group does as well as some tree identification along the way.

Wildcat Glades Rummage Sale
June 30 @ 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | July 1 @ 8:00 am to 5:00 pm | IBEW Hall 3316 Hearnes, Joplin Missouri
Come support Wildcat Glades Nature Group at our semi-annual Rummage Sale! All proceeds will directly support efforts at Wildcat Park by the Nature Group.
Donations will be accepted on June 26 and 27 at IBEW from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Donation items could include books, household and decorative items, craft supplies, fabric, tools, kitchen items, costume jewlery, sports equipment, small pieces of furniture, like-new accessories, toys in good condition, and jigsaw puzzles. No large appliances, old TVs, or clothing will be accepted.
