Joplin Police Department Announces Memorial Services for Fallen Officers

(Joplin, MO) – On Wednesday, March 8 at 10:00 am, the Joplin Police Department will host a memorial service at the Public Safety Training Facility at 5102 Swede Lane in Webb City. The events of March 8, 2022, had a profound impact on the families of the fallen officers, on the Joplin Police Department, City of Joplin employees, and the community. During the service, Chief Rowland and several others will speak to the sacrifices that Cpl. Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed made that day and their heroic acts.

Additionally, there will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 11 at 10:00 am at the Public Safety Training Facility to honor Officer Jake Reed. On March 11, 2022, in his final act of service, Officer Reed gave his organs so others could live. This ceremony will honor his sacrifice and will include a Joplin City Council proclamation for Jake Reed Day, as well as words from several speakers.

Both ceremonies are open to media and the general public. Seating and parking may be limited depending on attendance.
