Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States to Honor and Recruit Volunteers

(Joplin, MO) – This spring, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States will honor their volunteers with a recognition ceremony. The ceremony will include a presentation of the annual Heart of the House, Heart of the Family Room, and Volunteer of the Year awards.

The Charity had 160 active volunteers in 2022, and they hope to increase that number this year. Any volunteer signed up for training by March 20 will be eligible to attend the recognition ceremony.

“Our volunteer recognition night is one of our favorite events every year,” said Annette Thurston, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States. Our House and Family Room are two of the few programs in our worldwide system that are staffed by volunteers. This is an opportunity to truly recognize the time and commitment of each of our volunteers, who are devoted to supporting families with seriously ill children.”

Volunteers donated 14,514.03 hours to the Charity in 2022. According to Independent Sector, the value of those volunteer hours is equivalent to $394,926.76.

Volunteers participate in a wide range of duties, including light housekeeping, front desk operations, making decorations, facility maintenance, landscaping, preparing meals, and more.

“Any skill can be put to use at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States,” said Jeri Sargent, House Manager. “We encourage you to visit our website or stop by our House to apply as a volunteer. Your contributions make a big impact on families during one of the hardest times of their lives.”

About Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States has served our communities since 1996 through its mission, which is to create, find, and support programs that directly support the health and well-being of children and their families. That mission is executed through its cornerstone program, Ronald McDonald House, and the Ronald McDonald Family Room, located at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Our House provides temporary lodging for families of seriously ill children (ages 0-21) and ill expectant mothers, while our Family Room serves as a small oasis for families of pediatric patients just steps away from their child’s hospital room. For the over 200 families that Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States serves annually, we give a family with a sick child what they need most — each other.
