(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library (JPL) is excited to announce a new initiative called Joplin Reads Together. Joplin Reads Together is the Library’s first Community Read, a program commonly provided by libraries around the country. As a Community Read, Joplin Reads Together is a community-focused, month-long event centered upon one adult book and will include accompanying programs during the month of April, ending with a visit from the author of the chosen book.
Joplin Reads Together aims to increase awareness of the Library and its services, provide a shared experience, and connect our community to its organizations. Community members can participate by reading the book, tracking their progress on Beanstack, and joining programs offered throughout the month of April.
“We are thrilled to bring this initiative to Joplin,” stated Sarah Turner-Hill, Adult Programming Coordinator for Joplin Public Library. “It’s our goal that Joplin Reads Together cultivates a sense of community togetherness and reading, and provides participants an opportunity for open discussion with fellow community members in a new way. Other libraries have had success with community reads, and we hope to enjoy the same with Joplin Reads Together.”
The 2023 Book will be announced January 31, and Joplin Public Library has purchased additional copies of the book in physical, ebook, and audiobook form, to ensure interested patrons have the opportunity to participate.
