(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library (JPL) has announced the hiring of Jennifer Lewis as their new Makerspace Assistant. Lewis’ passion for creative projects and her experience working at the Nixa community branch of the Christian County Library make her an exciting addition to the Library team. Her role at Christian County provided valuable training in customer service, plus a behind-the-scenes understanding of more technical library tasks. Also notable is her enthusiasm for maker projects and her drive to help people.
“I love that the Makerspace allows our community to have access to tools and technology they may otherwise never use. Having the opportunity to come alongside people and help them create is something I’m excited to be involved in at the Library!”
In her position, Lewis will help users in operating the equipment and software available in the Library’s Makerspace. Plus, she will conduct events and programs that showcase the offerings in the Makerspace. The Makerspace, which opened in 2017, is meant to allow people to explore, experiment, and create and Lewis will assist users in this endeavor.
The Library’s Makerspace is open Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, on Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the second Saturday each month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Most equipment can be used, as available, on a walk-in basis, but users must make an appointment to use the Library’s laser cutting and etching machine.
