The Missouri Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) will be holding several trainings throughout this month. Sign up for one today!

Trauma-Informed Workplaces

Tuesday, October 4, 2022 | 8:30 am to 9:30 am CDT | Cost covered by Freeman Health System

Trauma-informed care is helpful in everyday life. Incorporating trauma informed care principles and practices can help with how you do business, engage with your employees, and interact with your family!

Trauma-informed care promotes a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing. During the presentation you will hear from Kaley Routledge, Trauma Informed Care Specialist at Freeman Health System’s Ozark Center. SHe will guide attendees through:

  • Defining trauma-informed care
  • Discussing major principles
  • Examining best practices

And, most importantly, you’ll take away ideas and resources for workplace implementation.

There will be in-person and virtual options for attendees. Registration for in-person attendees begins at 8:00 am and a light breakfast will be served.

SBA Lender Trading

Wednesday, October 5, 2022 | 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm CDT | Free event; pre-registration recommended

Are you interested in a refresher on SBA loan programs, or know of a new lender in your bank who needs this information?

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Missouri SBDC at MSSU will hold a training opportunity for commercial loan officers. Lenders will learn more about SBA’s guaranteed loan programs including the SBA’s 7(a) loan program.

Krishin Thadani with the SBA will talk about how the SBA’s loan programs can benefit local financial institutions.

Representatives with the Missouri SBDC at MSSU and SCORE will be on hand to talk about their services geared toward small business, including ones that may make a lender’s job more productive and efficient.

There is no fee to attend this session, but pre-registration is recommended.

Starting a Small Business: The First Steps

Thursday, October 6, 2022 | 4:00 pm to 5:45 pm CDT | Free, virtual event

In this workshop, participants will learn about discovering their target markets and gaining a better appreciation of why businesses need to understand their customers. Participants will also learn about registering their business with the federal, state, and local agencies. They will also learn the basics of understanding cash flow projections and various funding alternatives as well as their importance.

QuickBooks Desktop: Utilization, Tips, and Tricks

Friday, October 14, 2022 | 10:30 am to 11:45 am CDT | Free, virtual event

This training includes a demonstration of QuickBooks Desktop and explanations on how to best use the program and its features. This course is a free, one-hour training via Zoom. Participants will be sent a Zoom link after they have registered for the event here.

Business Financials: The Basics

You have a business idea, but now what? This workshop will introduce participants to the importance of writing a business plan. The various components of a business plan will be reviewed, as well as how to use the plan to attract funding and as a business management tool. Participants will learn about the Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition Canvas, Lean Canvas, and GrowthWheel.
