Joplin Public Library Presents 2022 Summer Reading Program

(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library (JPL) is excited to present their annual all-ages Summer Reading Program from May 31 through July 24, with the theme “Oceans of Possibilities!”

No library card is required to participate in the Summer Reading Program; however, anyone is eligible for a free JPL card to be used from May 31 through July 24. You may check out physical items from the Library including books, DVDs, and more. You can also use the card to access their awesome digital resources. (Joplin Public Library cards are always free for in-city residents of Joplin.)

The JPL Summer Reading Program is a free program designed to keep the public reading, learning, and exploring all summer. After sign-up, children, teens, and adults alike will participate by tracking the minutes they read or listen to their favorite materials (books, magazines, newspaper, audiobooks, etc.) on a paper gameboard that is handed out in the library, or on the easy, free, and fun website and accompanying app called “Beanstack.”

To learn more about the reading goals for each age group, visit our Summer Reading page here. Another aspect of the Summer Reading Program includes fun, educational, and theme-based Library-hosted events and activities. Find the comprehensive calendar of events here.

They are excited to continue two exciting partnerships with the City of Joplin. First, the Transportation Department is providing free Sunshine Lamp trolley passes for adults and teens when they sign up for the Summer Reading Program (child trolley rides are always free)! The pass (not applicable for MAPS transit) will be good from June 1 to July 31, and recipients may enjoy unlimited travel to wherever they wish on the routes. Second, the Parks and Recreation Department is providing a free single-use pool pass to children and teens who complete their first gameboard! Pool passes are good for a single-use entry to one of three Joplin aquatic centers: Schifferdecker, Cunningham, or Ewert.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins in the Library on Tuesday, May 31, and goes throughout the months of June and July, ending on July 24. Sign-up anytime within those dates to start your adventure!
