(Diamond, MO) – On Saturday, May 7, join the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society, a Volunteers In Parks group, at George Washington Carver National Monument as we celebrate Astronomy Day.
Drop in for this free event from 1:00–4:30 pm. The theme for 2022 is Big Astronomy. Take this opportunity to learn about and view our nearest star, the sun, with educational activities and demonstrations. Discover more about the biggest telescopes around the world! Activities include a solar party with telescope operators from Sugar Creek Astronomical Society, featuring both white/yellow light and hydrogen alpha filters, a hands-on solar table that includes a galaxy model, clues to the cosmos, good light, good night, dark sky wheel, astronomy for everyone banner, and legends in the sky.
Astronomy Day, “Bringing Astronomy to the People,” began in California in 1973 as a way for astronomy clubs to share the joy of astronomy with the public and has grown into a worldwide, annual event. Help us celebrate Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 7 from 1:00–4:30 pm.
