(Diamond, MO) – George Washington Carver National Monument extends a hearty congratulations to the winners of the annual George Washington Carver National Monument Third and Fourth Grade Art and Essay Contest! An awards ceremony will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm and everyone is invited to attend as students present their winning entries. Roary the Lion from Missouri Southern State University will be on hand to congratulate the students! First place winners become park rangers for a day!
The contest theme is Kindness, based on George Washington Carver’s advice that a kind student, “…takes his (or her) share of the world and lets others have theirs.” Placing in the art category, Addison took first and Miya took second. Both are from Nichols Elementary in Miami. John from St. Mary’s Elementary in Joplin took third. Placing in the essay category, Hanna from Mighty Oaks Christian School took first, Juliana from Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in Joplin took second, and Hadlee from Harry S Truman Elementary from Webb City took third.
Park staff wishes to thank the judges from the Department of Teacher Education at Missouri Southern State University, the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, the Carver Birthplace Association, and VIPs from George Washington Carver National Monument.
