Free Sunshine Lamp Trolley Pass from Joplin Public Library

(Joplin, MO) – An exciting new incentive is being offered for those who sign up in the Joplin Public Library (JPL) at 1901 E. 20th Street (20th and Connecticut) for the Summer Reading Program that runs from June 1 to July 25.

The City of Joplin’s Transportation Department is partnering with the Library to provide a FREE Sunshine Lamp Trolley pass to every adult and teen who signs up for the fun reading incentive program. The pass will be available to use from now until July 31, and recipients may travel wherever they wish on the trolley routes. Children have always ridden the trolley for free. (Free Sunshine Lamp Trolley Service ONLY will be provided, the offer does not extend to MAPS Transit rides.)

Robert Lolley, City of Joplin Transit Services Coordinator, explains the heart behind the partnership, “Transportation is often a barrier preventing low income individuals from participating in community programs. Children under 12 ride free on the trolley with an adult, so the free pass will assist parents who would like their children to visit the Library but don’t have reliable transportation. The pass also provides teens with a safe mode of transportation to access places of interest in Joplin.”

Director of Joplin Public Library, Jeana Gockley, believes that the positive benefits of this partnership will extend throughout the entire city. “The mission of the Joplin Public Library is to open tomorrow’s doors today through diverse opportunities to learn, create, explore, and have fun. We can only open doors for our public if they are able to access what they need. These complimentary trolley passes will allow community members to visit their Library, which is full of tools that can help them connect, and better enjoy their lives. Also, it will allow our users access to other destinations in Joplin, providing additional support for community members for whom unreliable transportation has created challenges and barriers.”

The Summer Reading Program is for all ages and features free events, prizes for reaching goals. Additional information can be found by visiting our website, following our social media pages, or calling 417.623.7953 or clicking here.
