Joplin History and Mineral Museum to Celebrate Its 90th Birthday on May 15

The public is invited to join in the Joplin History and Mineral Museum’s 90th Birthday Celebration. The event will be held at the museum from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 15. Cake and punch will be available to those attending. Everyone is welcome.

The Joplin Mineral Museum was dedicated on May 17, 1931. The Museum was dedicated to the mining industry of the Tri-State Mining District with a mission of documenting the history of the local industry, which had provided the majority of the zinc ore supply for the United States. The Museum displays mineral specimens typical of the area geology and artifacts that illustrate Joplin’s rich history.

The Museum is located in Schifferdecker Park at 504 S. Schifferdecker Avenue. Their hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. They can be reached by calling 417.623.1180.
