(Kansas City, MO, October 28, 2020) – Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences will now operate as Kansas City University (KCU). This update reflects KCU’s expansion into a more comprehensive health sciences university and the need to consolidate all programs under one overarching name.
“Osteopathic medicine is our foundation,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, KCU president and CEO. “Our proud 104-year history as an osteopathic medical school firmly rooted in historic Northeast Kansas City will not change. However, KCU is equally proud of our College of Biosciences, our clinical psychology doctoral program (PsyD) and our proposed College of Dental Medicine that is scheduled to open on our campus in Joplin, Missouri, in 2022. Kansas City University is the umbrella under which all of these programs will grow and thrive, as we work to improve the lives of the communities we serve.”
The University’s logos, press kits and other brand assets have been updated to reflect the shorter Kansas City University name. With this University name update in effect, the letters “KCUMB” will no longer used in reference to the University. As such, the KCU website domain name has been updated to kansascity.edu and all KCU-affiliated email addresses now end in @kansascity.edu. A press kit is available.
KCU looks forward to the continuation of advancing the University in additional ways such as providing leading-edge education through the newly opened Center for Medical Education Innovation (CMEI). The CMEI features the most advanced virtual and augmented reality technology – which has already proven itself critical for effective delivery of web-based education during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the opening of the CMEI, KCU faculty now have the technology and space to train the next generation of physicians in critical areas such as virology, public health and telemedicine while instilling compassionate care of the whole person for which osteopathic medicine is known.
KCU also provides free health screenings to children in Kansas City and Joplin in the award-winning Score 1 for Health and CHAMPS outreach programs through the College of Osteopathic Medicine; offers mental and behavioral health services through the KCU PsyD program; and trains future scientists who have chosen to dedicate their lives to finding cures for disease through laboratory work, including research opportunities in collaboration with partner institutions, and advancing our understanding of bioinformatics.
