Fall Kickoff To Be Held In Lieu Of Third Thursday

(Joplin, MO)  The Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) welcomes the autumn season by hosting the Fall Kickoff & Evening Shopping event that will be held in Downtown Joplin on September 17 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in place of Third Thursday, an event that would have usually been held that evening.

Instead of hosting an event that brings out thousands of people for a street festival, the Downtown Joplin Alliance invites the public to explore our local businesses and see what they have going on.

The boutiques including Blue Moon, Sophie, Buxton, Blush, and the newest arrival to downtown, Lennon’s, will all be keeping their doors open late with specials and treats. Many of the restaurants such as Carmine’s, Social BTB, Blackthorn Pizza & Pub, and Hubba’s Hideout will be open late and have their outdoor seating available. The art scene will be alive as wellvisit Spiva Center for the Arts, Create N’ Sip, and Urban Art Gallery. Or check out Hurley’s Heroes, Changing Hands, Creative Audio, and others who will be open until 7:00 pm or later. After you’ve shopped, Chaos Brewing Company will still be open for a pint, or Main Street Axe Company will be open to throw axes.

Some traditions from Third Thursday will be carried over to this event. The vintage car show will be held on the 500 block of Virginia and some select food trucks will be located at 2nd/Joplin and 3rd/Main. Flounder’s, Red’s House, Churros Colima, and Kona Ice will all be joining in on the festivities.

DJA Executive Director, Lori Haun, states, “Even though we can’t have the typical huge event, we are excited to welcome the public back downtown and encourage them to explore the businesses that are here. We think you’ll find some pleasant surprises!”

This is a great time to start utilizing the Be Local passports that the Downtown Joplin Alliance has rolled out. For more information or to purchase one, head over to downtownjoplin.com. Passports and Downtown Joplin merchandise will also be available on Thursday evening at Buxton Boutique.
