Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, Trails & Connectivity Work Group complete fundraising effort to bring All Kids Bike to Joplin Schools
Program is designed to provide an inclusive learn-to-ride opportunity packed with fun, gratification and success.
Joplin, MO – November 5, 2019 – The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce (JACC), Trails & Connectivity Work Group is excited to announce they have completed their fundraising campaign to assist all 11 Joplin Elementary Schools in bringing the All Kids Bike program to the district’s Kindergarten physical education classes. The curriculum and bikes are provided by All Kids Bike and the Strider Education Foundation.
Joplin Schools and Trails & Connectivity teamed up earlier in the year to begin the process of bringing the Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Curriculum, offered through All Kids Bike and the Strider Education Foundation. The goals of the All Kids Bike program are to instill confidence for the classroom, home and community. Christina Williams with the JACC Trails & Connectivity Work Group shares, “We have the opportunity to help Joplin Schools implement this program for every kindergarten student for years to come – a huge step toward creating a healthier, safer, and more economically attractive Joplin. By creating hundreds of new bike enthusiasts every school year, our kids grow up to support a bike friendly city.”
The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation presented a check to Strider Education Foundation at Cecil Floyd Elementary School on November 5. The check presentation brought together donors, kindergarten students, and the 11 Joplin Elementary School Principals. A three rider bicycle stunt team opened the event prior to the check presentation.
Now that the fundraising goal of $3,000 per elementary school is met, this program will provide curriculum, teacher support, 18 Strider bikes, pedal conversion kits, and helmets for each school. “Cycling is a lifetime sport that promotes wellness from childhood into adulthood. We are thrilled to have the chance to bring this enhancement to our PE curriculum so that every Joplin kindergartener can take advantage of the program,” said Dr. Melinda Moss, the Superintendent of Joplin Schools.
We want to thank the community for coming together to bring this new piece of curriculum to our young Joplin residents.
