(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance and Missouri Southern State University are partnering to turn Main Street green and gold during Third Thursday on September 17! Come enjoy an evening in downtown Joplin with more than 120 vendors, live music, and fun activities.
This season’s events are made possible thanks to KSN/KODE and JoplinRecycles.com: “From plastic bottles to metal cans, recycling in Joplin is easy. Get rolling—request your recycling cart today. Recycling benefits us all. Learn more here. Recycle. It’s how we roll.”
The evening’s events include:
- Live music all night! The North Stage on the 200 block will have music presented by North Heights Porchfest. Enjoy performances from The Fun Club and Keegan E. Wood throughout the evening as they gear up for Joplin’s biggest celebration of live music.
- MSSU is taking over the 400 and 500 blocks. The night’s theme is Explore Boldly, Care Deeply, Impact Globally, as MSSU celebrates its Vietnamese semester. More than 35 of the MSSU departments and clubs will have fun, interactive booth for visitors to engage with, such as:
- The Crime Scene Van will have demonstrations from the Justice Studies Department; The Spirit Squad will be tumbling and stunting through the night; and other departments will have demonstrations and giveaways.
- The Lion Pride Marching Band will perform at 6th and Main Street at 6:00 pm.
- Roary will be downtown for photos during the event.
- The Lion Cubs will have Foam Cannons at 4th and Main.
- Visitors can purchase their own limited edition MSSU merch.
- The Joplin Magic Club will have several magicians performing short ten minute acts throughout the event.
- YVC will host a native plant fundraiser, including mums.
- Patio and on-street dining throughout the event, including at Vino Noir and Club 609.
- Vintage car cruise on the 100 block.
- An artisan market on the 200 block.
- More than 120 vendors, including over 30 food and beverage options.
Lori Haun, executive director of the Downtown Joplin Alliance, states, “This is one of our favorite events of the year. MSSU is a vital part of our community and we love bringing them downtown each September!”
Third Thursday is held from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month from March through October.
