(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance is excited to announce the return of the Dog Days of Summer during Third Thursday on August 20! Come and enjoy an evening in downtown Joplin with more than 120 vendors, live music, fun activities, and plenty of water to keep everyone as cool as possible.
This season’s events are made possible thanks to KSN/KODE and JoplinRecycles.com: “From plastic bottles to metal cans, recycling in Joplin is easy. Get rolling—request your recycling cart today. Recycling benefits us all. Learn more here. Recycle. It’s how we roll.”
The evening’s events include:
- A watery good time with the Joplin Fire Department and a chance to donate to the Joplin Professional Firefighters Association at their booth on the 400 block. They’re kicking off their annual MDA Boot Block. For more than 70 years, members of the International Association of Firefighters have partners with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to raise funds for research, specialized care, advocacy, and programs benefiting individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromacular diseases. Collecting donations in a firefighter’s boot has become a longstanding tradition.
- Live music all night from Keegan E. Wood and square dancing with Sheila McReynolds.
- Latin Dance lessons and tunes provided by DJ Oso outside Vino Noir on the 500 block.
- The return of the Third Thursday Gathering, courtesy of Creative Car Audio (located at 7th Street and Main). Come show off your car, boat, motorcycle, ATV, or whatever your ride is! Come in on the back side of the store and staff will help you get parked. Even if you aren’t showing a vehicle, come down and check out the others.
- Patio and on-street dining up and down Main Street.
- A vintage car cruise on the 100 block.
- An artisan market on the 500 block.
- More than 120 food vendors, including over 30 food and beverage options.
Lori Haun, executive director of the Downtown Joplin Alliance, states, “We love seeing everyone bring their furry friends downtown for Third Thursday, and August is the month tailored to them! We will have water features to keep everyone cool, so we hope you’ll come and join us!”
Third Thursday is held from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month from March through October.
