(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Globe is proud to announce that they will publish a commemorative magazine on June 27 celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday and the enduring words of the Declaration of Independence.
250 Living will explore Joplin’s singular role in the American story, tracing the city’s contributions from mining the lead that supplied earlier wars to the region’s place in the country’s exploration of space. The special publication will also spotlight some of Joplin’s oldest businesses — several of which have been operating for more than half the lifetime of the United States itself.
“We want readers to see Joplin’s history not as a local footnote, but as a genuine chapter in the American story,” says Andy Ostmeyer, Editor of The Joplin Globe.
The magazine will serve as a community events guide for the summer’s milestone celebrations, covering everything from Connect2Culture’s Liberty Celebration! at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex to area fireworks shows and Fourth of July parades around the region. Readers will also find information on where to view a rare copy of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense pamphlet from 1776, currently on display in the area.
