(Joplin, MO) – College Board announced that Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School (TJ) has been named to the 2025 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning Platinum distinction, College Board’s highest honor. TJ is among only 10 other high schools in Missouri to earn College Board’s highest level of distinction (eight schools are in the St. Louis metro, one in Kansas City, and one in Columbia). Schools can earn this recognition
annually based on criteria that reflects a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
At TJ, 100% of the Class of 2025 took AP coursework and corresponding AP Exams in their senior year; 100% of seniors took five or more AP Exams throughout their high school career, and 97% of seniors earned a passing score of three or higher on at least one AP Exam, the primary metric considered for honor roll standing. At TJ, students begin taking AP coursework during their sophomore year. TJ offers 20 AP courses annually, with the average graduate completing eight during their high school career.
“This recognition validates the hard work and dedication put forth by our faculty and staff to create the best possible foundation for a successful college transition,” said Jon Emery,
Director of College Counseling at Thomas Jefferson. “And it truly encapsulates the ambitious and tenacious approach our students take toward their academics.”
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 40 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
