The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is seeking a 14-day public comment period for the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) update. The plan advocates for transportation policies and strategies developed via public involvement and assists in prioritizing transportation improvements over the next 20 to 25 years. The MTP studies existing land use and traffic patterns, emerging modes and technologies, and changing demographics to best anticipate and understand future needs. All transportation modes including passenger air travel, public transit, personal vehicles, and freight are discussed in the document.
The public comment period for the 2050 MTP Update begins at 9:00 am, Friday, December 19, 2025, and concludes at 12:00 pm, Friday, January 2, 2026. Comments on the amendments can be submitted to Robert Lolley by phone at 417.624.0820, ext. 1514 or by email at rlolley@joplinmo.org.
This public notice, public involvement activities, and time established for public review and comments on the TIP will satisfy the FTA Section 5307 Program of Projects requirements for the Metro Area Public Transit System (MAPS).

JATSO is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Joplin region. Federal legislation requires an MPO for any urbanized area with a population of over 50,000.
