(Joplin, MO) – The holiday season is right around the corner, and Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) is announcing the following events to help everyone get into the spirit! Thanks to ALLO Fiber for making this season’s events possible.
Light Up the Park + Holiday Kickoff Party
Friday, November 21 | 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm/5:30 pm – 7:00 pm | Free event | Located at Spiva Park, 4th and Main Streets
Join DJA and the ALLO Fiber elves to help light up Spiva Park brighter than ever before! Expect to hang some lights and sip some hot chocolate. Volunteers can sign up here or show up the day of the event.
Decorating the park will last from 2:00 to 5:30 pm, with the tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 pm. Guests can also expect:
- Live music and carolers
- Hot cocoa and cookies
- Fiber optic wands for the kids (and we’ve heard Santa may show up!)
- Boutique Marketplace (613 S. Main Street) will be celebrating Pink Friday with pink drinks, pink snacks, doorbusters, and special giveaways to the first 25 customers after 5:00 pm. If they come the holiday open house on November 14, they can receive a 15% discount and get a second punch on their punch card.
- A cash bar at the Main Event (611 S. Main)
Holiday Market at Empire
Saturday, November 22 to Saturday, December 20 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm | Free event | Empire Market, 931 E 4th Street
The Empire Market will kick off its 8th Annual Holiday Market season on November 22. Expect all the great food, beverages, and winter produce options you’re used to with even more locally made artisan goods, which are perfect for gift-giving. You can also expect live music, gift wrapping, and a special visit from St. Nick on December 6!
Downtown Holiday Decorating Contest
Saturday, November 22 to Thursday, December 18 | Free event | Throughout downtown Joplin
This year’s holiday decorating theme is Santa’s Workshop. Downtown businesses will have until November 20 to register to be included in the online voting, which begins on November 22 and coincides with the Holiday Kickoff Party and tree lighting at Spiva Park. Voting closes on December 18.
The public will be able to choose their favorites in three categories:
- Best Use of Theme
- Best Use of Lights
- Most Creative
The awards ceremony will be held on Monday, December 22 at 2:30 pm inside the lobby of City Hall with a reception at ALLO Fiber (512 S. Main Street) immediately following.
Small Business Saturday
Saturday, November 29 | All day | Throughout downtown Joplin
Shop Small throughout the downtown district and keep an eye on DJA’s social media pages to see all the specials that are happening. The DJA Elves will also be making appearances throughout downtown, delivering swag!
Holiday WineShare at The Boutique Marketplace
Friday, December 5 | 6:00 to 8:00 pm | 21+ only | Free event | 613 S. Main Street | Sponsored by Sparklight
Enjoy sharing wine and conversation with friends new and old at December’s First Friday WineShare, held in downtown’s newest shopping gem, The Boutique Marketplace, at 613 S. Main Street. All guests can enjoy a 15% discount for the night as well as participate in an ugly sweater contest.
Bring a bottle of bubbly, wine, or your favorite craft beer to share and expect a night full of merriment, giveaways, and more.
Tinsel & Tidings Christmas Eve Market

Help the Empire Market close out its 2025 season and get all those last-minute gifts and food for your holiday table! The Market will be closed the following Saturday, December 27 and will reopen for 2026 on January 3.
Beyond the offerings from DJA, downtown will also host a holiday season full of parades, boutique open houses, special food offerings, concerts, and more. Thank you to ALLO Fiber for making downtown’s holiday season that much brighter this year.
