(Joplin, MO) – Most Thursday mornings at Ozark Christian College, you’ll find hundreds of students in classrooms across campus. But on Thursday, September 11, 1111 N. Main stood empty as students put their ministry preparation into practice.
Around 40 organizations in the Joplin area signed on to have over 500 students and employees help with yard work, painting, organizing, cleaning, and more in a day the college calls “Serve Our City.”
“We’re excited to encourage others in the good work they’re doing to serve our city,” said OCC Chief Financial and Operating Officer Damien Spikereit, “and we’re grateful for the opportunity to live out our motto as a college — ‘not to be served, but to serve.’”
Projects were held at dozens of locations around Joplin and surrounding communities, including Neighborhood Life House, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States, United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas, and more.
