The City of Joplin is inviting the community to help name trails within the City’s new bike park located within the Dover Outdoor Recreation Area, affectionately known as DORA. The City is also announcing the official name for this world-class facility, MOmentum Bike Park.
The City is partnering with American Ramp Company (ARC), a Joplin-based company building action sports parks throughout the world, to offer an opportunity for the local community and bicycle enthusiasts to help shape the park’s story. This initiative ensures the voices of Joplin are woven into the park’s identity for generations to come. Don’t miss your chance to share trail name ideas—the survey closes Wednesday, September 17.
The trail name survey is now live here: https://americanrampcompany.com/surveys/momentum-bike-park-trail-naming-survey/
When it opens, MOmentum Bike Park will be the largest municipal facility of its kind in Missouri. The park, which remains closed to the public during construction, will feature more than 132,000 square feet of formal bike park elements alongside 10 miles of purpose-built mountain bike trails. The quality of the riding experience here will rival the best facilities in the Midwest. Crossland Construction Company Inc. is the contractor for the park, American Ramp Company is executing the specialty construction, and SWT Design provided design and engineering plans.
Located on a 95-acre site, the facility is designed to serve riders of all ages and skill levels. It offers both a regional attraction and a community asset that promotes active lifestyles and family-friendly recreation.
Bike Park Elements Include:
- Two Velosolutions Pump Tracks
- Four Progressive Jump Lines
- Bicycle Playground and Traffic Garden
- Skills Course
Trail System Highlights:
- Technical and Flow Gravity Trails
- Traditional Singletrack
- All-Weather Trails
- Climbing and Circulation Trails
- Designated Hiking Trails
The site also includes restrooms, a pavilion, shaded spectator seating, two parking areas, and a flexible lawn space for events and programs. The facility also includes a limited number of RV and concession trailer spaces, which will be available for events to be hosted in the park.
The project is funded through the Parks and Stormwater Tax, with additional support from a state matched grant provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The park is expected to attract
visitors, support local businesses, and help establish Joplin as a destination for outdoor adventure.
“I can’t wait to see the trail names our residents come up with. It’s cool to have the ARC team, who are so deeply intertwined with the local cycling community, helping us select names from the submissions as we start creating the signage and maps which will help visitors navigate this awesome park,” says Paul Bloomberg, Director of Parks & Recreation. “Our goal is to make sure the names selected will really suit each trail experience and help create a fun vibe.”
“This isn’t just a bike park. It’s a bold investment in healthy, active living and community connection,” said John Hunter, CEO of American Ramp Company. “It is especially meaningful to bring a project of this scale to life right here in Joplin, the hometown of our headquarters and the community we are proud to call home.”
Cole Beckam, a member of the Joplin cycling community and Director of Design and Planning at American Ramp Company says, “I’m beyond excited to see MOmentum Bike Park finally becoming a reality. It will be a space where kids, families, and riders of all ages can come together and share something special. MOmentum has the potential to make a lasting impact on our community and establish Joplin as a true cycling destination with real economic benefits for the city.”
Details about the grand opening celebration, trail-naming initiative, and future programming will be shared soon.
