As part of the City of Joplin’s yearly road resurfacing program, Microsurfacing Contractors, LLC, the City’s contractor, is to begin micro-surfacing selected city streets next week.
Residents who are affected will receive a notification in the form of a door hanger two days in advance of the work occurring on their street. In addition, the company offers a website for residents to view their location and schedule here. Work begins next week with day 1 of the schedule corresponding with Monday, August 25, 2025.
Work will continue for a few weeks in the general areas between Main Street and St. Louis Avenue, north of 15th Street, and west of Maiden Lane, south of 20th Street. A map of the affected streets can be viewed here. It is listed on the City Maps page of the website.
The City encourages residents to please plan trips accordingly and/or move their vehicles prior to the micro-surfacing, as it will not be possible to get out by vehicle in the chance they are in front of your driveway.
The micro-surfacing treatment is a thin layer of aggregate and oil that cures onto the road surface to provide a new wearing course. This will help seal minor cracks and increase the longevity of the road. The micro-surfacing treatment is similar to a slurry seal but cures faster allowing traffic to return much quicker.
Thank you for your patience during this process.
