Visit Joplin Announces World Street Painting Festival, Route 66 Artists for Event on June 4–7

(Joplin, MO) – The World Street Painting Festival, Route 66, is coming to Schifferdecker Park June 4–7, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri.

Visit Joplin and the Netherlands-based World Street Painting Foundation (WSP), the event’s co-hosts, announce the ten artists participating in this year’s festival; eight are international and two are U.S.-based.

The artists and their home country:

  • Jean-Marc Navello, France
  • Ruben Poncia, The Netherlands
  • Melina Berg, Germany
  • Canaco Matsumoto, Japan
  • Fabio Fedele, Italy
  • Kerim Musanovic, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Leon Keer, The Netherlands
  • Roberto Carlos Trevino Rodriguez, Mexico
  • Tracy Lee Stum, USA
  • Jan Riggins, USA

Patrick Tuttle with Visit Joplin says, “Each artist brings a unique approach to their craft — how they do 3D street painting and their perspective of Route 66.” He added, “The 3D art pieces must reflect a Route 66 theme.”

The World Street Painting Festival, Route 66, is Joplin’s signature event celebrating the Route 66 Centennial. This year, the works of these ten artists will add to the three street paintings completed last year (outside the Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Center) and set the stage for next June, when twenty artists will be featured during the centennial year.

“2025 also marks the 10th anniversary of the World Street Painting Foundation,” said Mike Kothuis with the World Street Painting Foundation. “As an organization, we have set the goal of making public spaces more beautiful and bringing art close to people worldwide.” The WSP holds similar festivals in Germany and the Netherlands. Joplin’s Route 66 festival is currently their only US project.

Street Painting is a performance art that renders artistic designs on the pavement with semi-permanent materials such as chalk or paint.

3D Art is the expression of applying the dimensions of height, width, and depth, allowing the audience to interact with the art.

The festival schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, June 4 – Site prep/Painting
  • Thursday, June 5 – Painting
  • Friday, June 6 – Painting
  • Saturday, June 7 – Opening (10:00 am to 2:00 pm)

The public is invited to watch the artists daily and see the 3D art come alive.
