Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri to Celebrate 28 Years of Healing with Open House on May 28

In 1996, a group of dedicated community members came together with a shared belief: there had to be a better way to respond to cases of child abuse and neglect. Through tireless fundraising and awareness efforts, their vision became a reality. In May 1997, Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri opened its Joplin Center’s doors to serve children and families in Jasper, Newton, and McDonald Counties.

Thanks to unwavering community support, the mission expanded. Over the next 12 years, three additional centers opened in Monett, Nevada, and Butler — extending services to nine more counties across southwest Missouri.

This month, Children’s Center is celebrating 28 years of hope and healing with an Open House! Join them on Wednesday, May 28 from 3:30 to 6:00 pm at their Joplin Center for tours, cupcakes, and an opportunity to learn more about this vital community resource.

In honor of their 28th anniversary, they invite community members to celebrate with them by making a $28 donation or contributing an item or toy for the children they serve.

Last year alone, Children’s Center provided services to more than 900 children affected by abuse.

Together, we can make a difference — one child at a time.
