Joplin Public Library is excited to host author J. Ryan Stradal at 6:00 pm, Thursday, April 24 at Joplin Public Library as the final event for 2025 Joplin Reads Together. J. Ryan Stradal will speak about his novel The Lager Queen of Minnesota and life as an author. Published in July 2019, The Lager Queen of Minnesota is Stradal’s second book. Receiving starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, and BookPage, it became a national bestseller its first week of release, and in 2020, won the WILLA Literary Award in Contemporary Fiction. The Lager Queen of Minnesota was named one of the best books of 2019 by USA Today and NPR, among other places.
Born and raised in Minnesota, J. Ryan Stradal now lives in Los Angeles. He likes books, craft beer, wine, root beer, sports, and peas. Following Stradal’s presentation he will be available for book signings. Attendees are welcome to bring their copy of his book to sign, plus all three of Stradal’s novels will be available for purchase thanks to Friends of the Joplin Public Library.
Joplin Reads Together is a community read event meant to increase awareness of the Library and its services, provide a shared experience, promote reading, and foster connection to local organizations. Community members participated by reading the book, contributing to the Joplin Reads Together group on Facebook, and joining programs offered throughout the month of April. Joplin Public Library has three community partners for Joplin Reads Together: Friends of the Joplin Public Library, MSSU Spiva Library, and Post Art Library.
