JATSO Seeking Citizens’ Input About Their Safety on Roads

Everyone values moving through a community safely. The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) believes that the best safety plan is shaped by the community it serves. Therefore, JATSO invites residents and stakeholders to take an online survey for the JATSO SS4A Safety Action Plan to share their thoughts and experiences regarding transportation safety in our region.

“Residents can voice their opinions and share their experiences with transportation safety in our area,” said Robert Lolley, JATSO Planner for the City of Joplin. “This feedback is crucial in helping to identify safety concerns and develop effective strategies to enhance road safety for all users — whether they walk, bike, or drive.”

Survey questions focus on safety perceptions, specific problem areas, and suggestions for improvement. Responses will help JATSO make informed decisions that target the most pressing issues affecting roads in the region.

The JATSO Online Survey is open for comments from October 1 through October 30, 2024.

“Residents offer valuable insights about local traffic safety concerns and experiences to help create a safer environment for all road users in the JATSO Region. Their answers will help ensure that the plan reflects the needs and priorities of the community. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to share their thoughts,” said Lolley.

A Public Meeting using an open house format will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29, at the Joplin Public Library, 1901 East 20th Street to discuss transportation safety.

JATSO is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Joplin region. Federal legislation requires an MPO for any urbanized area with a population of over 50,000. MPOs ensure that existing and future transportation projects and program expenditures are based on a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive planning process.
