(Joplin, MO) – The Creative Learning Alliance (CLA) will announce the full name of the future science center on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 am on their front lawn at 300 S. Main St. A public contest was announced in December 2023 for a fun, descriptive name to accompany a sponsor name. The winning entry was chosen from 64 names that were submitted by area residents. Entries were painstakingly evaluated, discussed, and voted upon by a task force consisting of members of each committee of CLA.
In conjunction with the name announcement, CLA is pleased to announce the public phase of its capital campaign to develop the science center for the Joplin region. “This capital campaign is instrumental to turning the idea of a science center into reality,” said Neely Myers, Executive Director of the Creative Learning Alliance. “Our goal is to raise $6.5 million to support the renovation of our permanent home at 300 S. Main. This location will allow the growth of our programming, our impact, our reach, and our availability,” Myers added.
The science center will feature interactive space that will bring learning to life. Children and adults of all ages will be able to satisfy their curiosity and discover new things through hands-on activities and exhibits. CLA embraces donors and sponsors whose passion is education, learning, curiosity and discovery and who want to give back to the community.
Board President Audie Dennis said “We are extremely excited to announce not only the name of our region’s new science center, but to move to the next step in our capital campaign as we seek to bring it to reality.”
Myers added, “Our region is so in need of a science center and being part of that process is an honor. We have such a passionate Board and group of volunteers and working with this team makes every day a pleasure.”
The science center will be a hands-on, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) based attraction that exercises curiosity, promotes exploration, and develops imagination for people of all ages through interactivity.
