(Joplin, MO) – The Joplin Public Library is excited to host storyteller Janice “Mama” Katambwa in conjunction with its annual, all-ages Black History Fair. The Fair will take place in the Library’s Community Room on Saturday, February 10 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Janice “Mama” Katambwa is a storyteller who “puts the audience to work” thorough audience participation, props, puppets, costumes, and musical instruments. Mrs. Katambwa will share stories focusing on friendship and African American traditions and culture. The storytelling presentation will begin at 11:00 am.
Following the presentation, attendees may visit interactive displays and booths rom the Library, community members, and local organizations. Participating organizations include the Emancipation Committee, George Washington Carver National Monument, EastTown Dreams District, and more.
“The Black History Fair shines a spotlight on what community collaboration and partnership can grow into,” said Library Director Jeana Gockley. “It is our pleasure to welcome all the participation organizations, fair attendees, and Janice ‘Mama’ Katambwa to the Library.”
This event is free and open to the public, no Library card required. All ages are welcome to attend.
