This month, Joplin Little Theatre (JLT) has information about their upcoming shows in January and February as well as a call for auditions for their production of All Quiet on the Western Front, which will be performed in March. Read below to find out more!
JLT Presents Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, this JLT production is for mature audiences and features adult language.
The story centers around middle-aged siblings, Vanya and Sonia, who share a home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and who bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene is sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.
The cast for this play features:

- Sonia – played by Shelly Dunn
- Cassandra – played by Kylie Poor
- Masha – played by Jennifer Jones
- Spike – played by Logan Daniel
- Nina – played by Stophie Stoebel
The show will run from Wednesday, January 31 to Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 7:30 pm each night. A matinee showing will be held on Sunday, February 4 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are available online or by calling the box office at 417.623.3638.
JLT Presents Be My Broadway Valentine
Mark your calendars for JLT’s 8th biennial Valentine Concert!
Open call auditions are scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at JLT. Auditions may also be submitted via video to mustbemarilyn@hotmail.com by Sunday, January 7, 2024. Please include any previous experience with the audition email.
The performance is set for Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:30 pm and at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $14 each and go on sale through the JLT office on Monday, January 15, 2024. They will also be available online.
Upcoming Auditions for All Quiet on the Western Front
JLT invites local thespians to audition for their upcoming performance of All Quiet on the Western Front, which will be directed by Tegan Whited. This presentation is intended for mature audiences only and features adult language and special effects.
Auditions will be held on Monday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 6, 2024, beginning at 7:00 pm. The cast will be made up of five to seven actors, who may be asked to double up on roles for flexible casting. Approximate age groups include those between the ages of 15 and 30 years old. One older male actor in his early forties is also needed.
Male and female actors who are auditioning for the main character must prepare a one-to-two minute monologue. Auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script.
Performance dates will be held on Wednesday, March 20 to Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 7:30 pm each night. A matinee showing will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 2:30 pm.
