(Diamond, MO) – On September 23, 2023, tens of thousands of volunteers across the country will join in trail maintenance and planting projects, trash pick-up, and other activities aimed at restoring and caring for our public lands to celebrate the 30th annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD). Organized each year by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), and nationally sponsored by Toyota Motor North America, NPLD is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
George Washington Carver National Monument has partnered with NEEF to invite the community members, families, service organizations, students, and families of southwestern Missouri to the park to help make it beautiful. This will include landscape projects, trail maintenance, and managing plants to help the natural areas continue to thrive. Everyone can help and everyone can contribute to our public lands. It’s a big outdoors and it up to us to make sure it stays protected.
George Washington Carver drew his inspiration from his childhood here, exploring the woods. We want this place to continue to inspire visitors for generations to come. Following this day of service, be sure to stay and enjoy Hispanic Heritage Day on the park grounds. Dancers, music, and crafts are planned from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. There will be informational exhibits and publications about National Park Service sites that interpret Latin American history. Hispanic Heritage Day is free of charge.
