As spring approaches, find the latest news from Region M Waste Management, including updates on their grant timeline, recycling initiatives, and much more below.
Upcoming Community Recycling Events
Region M will be participating in regional recycling events between March and June. The dates are as follows:
- Neosho, Newton County — March 25, 2023
- Nevada, Vernon County — April 22, 2023
- Lamar, Barton County — May 6, 2023
- Carterville, Jasper County — May 20, 2023
- Noel, McDonald County — June 10, 2023
The City of Neosho is also partnering with Region M to offer a free tire collection event for Newton County Residents, which will take place on Saturday, March 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Neosho Recycle Center (4700 Howard Bush Drive). The guidelines are as follows:
- Open to Newton County residents only.
- Tires may not be dropped off before or after the event.
- Limit of ten tires per household.
- No businesses.
- Please remove rims.
- Passenger tires and light truck tires only.
- ATV, tractor, racing, and semi tires will not be accepted.
All the donated tires will be shredded and their metal threads removed. The rubber will be ground and combined with other materials to be made into composite lumber for picnic tables and benches. Recycling services will be provided by Champlain Tire. Hauling of tires is funded by Region M through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Region M Visit with Ritter Industries
Region M recently toured Ritter Industries where they learned how glass is pulverized to be used later as sand-blasting medium.
Tour Noble Earth Recovery on March 15
Come and see how Noble Earth Recovery, LLC uses a hammermill and shaker table to properly break down and recycle hard drives on Wednesday, March 15 at 10:00 am. The tour of this electronic recycling company is by invitation only.

Earth Day 2023
Earth Day is next month! Region M would love to partner with you to promote your events and spotlight environmental activities as we celebrate Earth Day 2023. Please contact Patty Overman at patty@regionm.org to learn more.
Join us and our friends at Wildcat Glades Friends Group to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day during May the Forest Be With You! Water Bottles Wanted
The Carthage Chamber of Commerce is looking for empty water bottles for an Earth Day project for their new Community Earth Day Celebration on April 22.
Empty water bottles can be dropped off at the Carthage Chamber office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please make sure to drop off all your water bottles by March 17!
The Region M App is Coming Soon!
Region M’s app is currently under construction and will be launched soon. The app will include a recycling drop-off locator, information about upcoming events, educational information, volunteer opportunities, and grantee/community spotlights. However, Region M needs your help! If there’s something you would like to see included in the new app, email your content ideas to patty@regionm.org.
FY2024 (07/011/23-06/30/24) Grant Round Timeline
Region M is happy to announce that they received 19 applications for their FY2024 Grant Round timeline. These requests add up to $860,739.57 in funding and an estimated 6,529.5 tonnage diverted!
FY2024 applicants will meet on Tuesday, March 21 to present their proposed projects. The Review Committee will score the grant applications and they will be ranked accordingly. Funding allocations will be made on April 19. There is a shortfall of over $450,000, so there is a big task ahead for Region M’s Executive Board and Review Committee!

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 21 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
FY2024 grant applicants will give a brief presentation about their proposed project during this time.
