(Diamond, MO) – George Washington Carver National Monument is pleased to announce a special program to celebrate Juneteenth.

A presentation is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 19 at the visitor center. Visitors will learn more about the newest federal holidays, one that has been celebrated by African Americans across the United States for over 150 years. A park ranger will discuss how and when the news of emancipation finally reached people in remote areas. Everyone will also learn about the national park sites that share the African American experience.

Juneteenth provides visitors an opportunity to contemplate the history of slavery and freedom in the United States. What does freedom mean to you?
