Summer is just around the corner, and that means one of the Joplin Public Library’s favorite traditions is coming back — Summer Reading at the Library!
Library staff are busy planning a season full of books, prizes, programs, and plenty of fun for readers of all ages. Whether you’re diving into page-turning adventures, exploring new nonfiction topics, or revisiting old favorites, Summer Reading is all about celebrating the joy of reading together as a community.
This year, they need your creativity to help kick things off!
They’re inviting children and teens to submit original artwork for their official Summer Reading bookmark. The winning design will be printed and shared throughout the community all summer long. Imagine seeing your artwork in the hands of readers everywhere!
Those interested should do the following:
- Download the Bookmark template here or pick one up in person from the Children’s or Teen Desks.
- Submit your original artwork between Monday, February 23 and Monday, March 23 to the Children’s or Teen Desks inside the Library (1901 E. 20th Street).
- Make sure your design matches the theme of “Unearth Your Story” and celebrates reading, summer, and imagination.
Anyone under 18 years old can participate!
After submissions close, the community will vote for the winning design. It’s a true community collaboration, from creation to selection! Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just love to doodle, the Library staff can’t wait to what the community creates. Start sketching, painting, or designing and help them make this year’s Summer Reading program one to remember!
