(Joplin, MO) – Joplin Public Library is excited to announce a Kids’ Fair event on Saturday, February 21 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The fair was developed by the Next Gen Library Council (NGLC), a volunteer advisory group made up of area teens. The Kids’ Fair is geared toward families with children ages five to 12.
The fair will include activities such as yard games, craft activities, and face painting and will be run by teen volunteers with supervision from the Youth Services Department. This event is free of charge and no registration required.
The Kids’ Fair, which will take place in the Library’s community room, will serve as a supply drive for Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri. The Next Gen Library council is encouraging fair attendees to bring diapers, cleaning supplies, or new pajamas for children and teens.
“As members of NGLC, we believe that supporting our community starts with showing up for the kids and families who need it most,” said NGLC secretary Autumn Schisler. “Children’s Haven’s mission provides stability and care for these kids during some of the hardest moments a family can face, and is unequivocally worthy of as much support as we can offer.”
Children’s Haven is a temporary shelter for children ages 0-18 in Joplin that is free of charge to families in need. Annually, the Next Gen Library Council chooses a service project that benefits an area organization focused on serving youth. In 2025, the council held a supply drive for the Children’s Center of Southwest Missouri.
The Next Gen Library Council has been in existence since August 2024. In that time, the group has developed several notable programs, including Adulting 101, a year-long series that brought in speakers on a variety of topics important to high school-aged students.
